Last year, a hinoki tree at a hotel run by Chinese management had its branches cut and was injected with herbicides, causing it to rot and fall. There were 20 rotten hinoki trees on the premises. While the hotel is responsible, the owner feels accountable in case of any damage caused by falling trees. As a result, all hinoki trees in the vicinity were cut down at the owner’s expense. Despite over a month passing since the incident, the hotel has not shown any sincere response. The owner, Inoue, built a villa in popular Lake Kawaguchi, lamenting the lack of apology or compensation from the hotel. The hotel continues to thrive with inbound tourists from Southeast Asia, leaving Inoue feeling regretful and unsettled.
