Continuing from last time. I (Manami) am a family of four with my husband Jun, daughter Yume, and son Louis. I love my husband and children very much, and I thought I would do anything for them. However, due to my husband’s job change and student loan payments, our finances became tight, so we decided to live with my parents for a while. Jun’s mother asked Jun to share the household chores equally, but Jun was not good at household chores. I thought it would be fine if I worked hard in his place, but his mother told us to leave within a month. His tone sounded quietly angry. Following his mother’s advice, we decided to leave my parents’ house.
Our family moved to a small apartment. However, when we moved to my parents’ house, we sold most of the large furniture to a recycling shop, so we only took what we needed. Even after moving to the new place, our daily life with Jun remained unchanged.
I saw Louis drawing vigorously on the floor with watercolor crayons… While taking care of the children and hastily cleaning up, I got angry with Jun relaxing alone. Emotions overflowed in me and exploded.
I cried in my heart and then realized. I was naive to try to shift the burden to my mother instead of trying to change Jun. Instead of dealing with the marital issues, I was involving my parents just to maintain the status quo and not addressing the real problem…
I must have thought somewhere in my heart, “When push comes to shove, we can rely on our parents.” My mother always said that even parents and children should be independent. However, he unilaterally trusted him.
Jun’s attitude didn’t change even after leaving home. When I witnessed this, I suddenly felt like I couldn’t trust my mother anymore. Tears welled up all at once and couldn’t stop. Instead of facing Jun in front of me, I was just pushing what Jun should do onto my mother.
But now, I understand. The person I should have faced the most was my husband, Jun, right in front of me.
Jun, who finally realized the seriousness of the situation, is working diligently to gradually improve the situation. From now on, I want to work together with Jun to face the challenges with all our might so that we can look back and say, “It was good to be kicked out of my parents’ house.”
