Continuing from last time. I (Misako) lost my husband 10 years ago, and have been working as a full-time employee while working hard with my daughter, Manami. My daughter got married to Jun five years ago, and they have two grandchildren. However, recently, due to Jun’s job change, our finances have become tight, and we were asked to consider temporary cohabitation. I agreed to live together if Jun and my daughter could share household chores and abide by the rules. However, once we started living together, Jun didn’t do anything on his own. My daughter and Jun are both busy with work, but I couldn’t contain my anger and finally raised my voice to the couple.
Jun subtly headed to the bathroom with the kids. But my anger didn’t subside. Manami calmly said, “Until we got married, Jun hardly did any housework. I was tired of worrying about living together…”
“I didn’t ask you to live with me, did I? If you knew my position, you wouldn’t have acted like this.” I unintentionally confessed my true feelings, and Manami seemed a little shaken. Angry, she shot back at me. I’m here.
Unable to bear the anger, I finally confessed my true feelings to my daughter and son-in-law. But Jun just listened expressionlessly without saying anything. Manami defended Jun and scolded me.
It seems that Manami believes that when stepping in between a mother and husband, she must understand her husband’s feelings. Certainly, the wife’s perception may not be wrong. However, this time, it became clear that the daughter and husband were breaking their promises.
Why should he not be blamed? If protecting Jun means prompting him to keep his promises, isn’t it Misako’s duty to do so? I began to wonder if I was wrong, as I was completely dismissed.
