Continuing from last time. This is Rikka. My husband and I got married a few months ago. We are still in our honeymoon phase, so it’s embarrassing, but we are enjoying lovey-dovey days with my husband Tak-kun. We always wanted to be a close-knit couple, but we recently had a big fight. The content of the fight was about the type of meat used in Nikujaga. I feel really sad when I think that my hard work in cooking is being criticized. So, I decided to consult with my friends.
I contacted three of my best friends from my college days who live nearby and told them that I needed advice. Since all of them were available, we decided to meet up for lunch.
When they told me to fight, I was confused. I consider these three to be my mentors in life as they have been married for many years.
I told them exactly what happened.
My friends empathized with me and said, “We understand that everyone has preferences, but it’s all about how you say it. There might also be regional differences.”
It seems that the type of meat used in Nikujaga varies from household to household, such as chicken or ground meat. I was surprised because it had never been a topic of discussion before.
The day after our first fight, I couldn’t bring myself to let Tak-kun go to work feeling reassured. I never thought that Nikujaga would be completely rejected like this.
However, when I talked to my college friends about this, they were shocked! There were many differences in what is added to Nikujaga and the seasoning used. Just by asking my friends, I realized how different things could be, and it might be difficult for a couple’s preferences to align completely.
Yesterday, I was surprised and ran away from Tak-kun, but I decided to accept it and approach him, making an effort to openly discuss our opinions. Thanks to these three friends, I felt like I learned something deep about married life.
