Continuation from last time. I am Amano. I live with my husband Yasuharu and our second-year high school daughter, Mayo. Recently, one of the teachers at school asked me to have lunch with Kanae-chan, who is attending school in a separate room, feeling like it was a one-sided pressure from the school, I was a bit uncomfortable with the situation. One day, Masayo received a letter from Kanae-chan. The letter contained words that seemed to bind Masayo like “You must come,” and Masayo started crying saying, “I don’t want to go to school.” I decided to go directly to the school to consult with the teacher.
I handed the letter I received from Kanae-chan to Mayo. The teacher seemed surprised by the limited text. Seeing Masayo’s strong words like “I won’t go to school anymore” and “I want to disappear,” the teacher’s expression changed.
“I understand the feeling that you want Kanae-chan to come to school as much as possible because you have heard that it is difficult for her. But, it is wrong to push that responsibility onto other students” or ‘impose patience.’ I think so.
By entrusting Kanae-chan’s care to the responsible Masayo, the teacher would have been reassured. Unexpected issues arose, but it was good to consult with the school and resolve them. Seeing my daughter suffering, I felt the need to respond as a parent quickly, but I was relieved to see Masayo and Kanae’s situation improving. Since then, Kanae-chan seems to be working hard to continue going to school in a separate room. Thanks to the support of several teachers, I was able to move in a different direction from relying on Mayo, and I was able to switch my feelings. I hope they can continue attending school at their own pace.
