Continuing from last time. I (Tsuyoshi) live with my wife Rie, daughter Sakura, and son Haruto. Being an only child, my parents always said from a young age, “Take care of us in our old age.” Even on his deathbed, my father reminded me to check on my mother. My mother is shy, and I am the only one she trusts. She can be strict with Rie and is not good at interacting with the kids. I couldn’t involve my family in such matters. I accepted all the support for my mother and endured it.
The relationship between my mother and Rie was not good. I always avoided getting involved in conflicts, so I tried to mediate for a peaceful resolution. When Sakura and Haruto were born, I couldn’t believe such adorable and precious beings existed in this world. My family is my most precious treasure. However, my mother didn’t get along well with the kids. In such cases, intervention is necessary. That’s what I thought. Later, my father was diagnosed with an illness.
My mother, who was left behind, had weak legs and couldn’t live without someone to support her nearby. I pondered the option of “living together” because I didn’t want to go to a care center, but I couldn’t involve my family in my parents’ affairs. I started living with my parents to support my mother. However, as soon as I returned home, my mother’s condition worsened. There was no one else but me for Mama. I couldn’t ignore her suffering. There were times when I was scolded by Rie due to multiple cancellations.
It was difficult for me too. I wanted to be with my family, but I couldn’t ignore my mother’s suffering. Initially, my family complained about my absence, but they began to understand the situation and tolerated my loneliness. In response to their feelings, I wholeheartedly supported my mother.
Finally, when my mother fell ill, I took time off work and assisted her full-time. My mother passed away, but I feel like I accomplished something. After fulfilling my duties as a filial child, I returned home with a sense of pride.
