Continuing from last time. My name is Satomi (35). I am a full-time housewife living in a provincial city with my husband, oldest son Asahi (7), and second son Hinata (2). Weekdays were mostly surgeries, and there were times when raising Hinata was difficult, but somehow I managed to get through each day. However, in April, Asahi became a first grader and in May, he did not want to go to school… Due to the difficult time with Hinata, Asahi did not want to go to school, and childcare was left to my husband. Feeling stuck from all sides, I decided to consult with my lifelong friend Shiori from high school about the current situation.
When I sought advice from Shiori, a childcare specialist, she mentioned that, in fact, her eldest son had a period when he couldn’t go to school in first grade. Shiori had experienced a time when she was struggling with her son’s refusal to attend school. I wanted to know how she managed to get him to participate again.
The advice from a seasoned mom who already raises two elementary school children was very helpful. As Asahi seems to be easily engaged in activities with a gaming aspect, I decided to start implementing them right away. Furthermore, Shiori listened to my story attentively, sympathized with me, and that alone made me feel much better. At that moment, I heard Hinata’s crying interrupting the conversation with Shiori.
Despite already being a elementary school student, Asahi, who is five years older than Hinata, always surprises me by hitting him and making him cry.
When raising children alone, it is quite challenging for me to intervene in sibling fights. Therefore, it would be nice if he could be a little kinder to his brother…
However, Shiori, seeing my response, said, “I feel like I understand why Asahi-kun is so rebellious.” It seemed like she was thinking about something while looking at the parent-child duo.
