Continuing from the last time. My name is Mitsuko, and I am 60 years old. My two children have left the nest, and now I live with my husband. A few months ago, my eldest son’s wife (Kenji, 30 years old) (Chie, 30 years old) passed away after a long illness, leaving behind two children (grandchildren) aged 1 and 3. While the entire family was engulfed in deep sorrow, it was revealed that Kenji had remarried Chie’s friend (Kaori). It has been three months since Chie’s passing. In the midst of this turmoil, the news of Kaori’s pregnancy and wedding surfaced.
I cannot comprehend my son’s unexpected remarriage and wedding plans at all. To make matters worse, Kaori, the new spouse, is pregnant.
My son came to the house unannounced to report the marriage. Kaori’s son was not feeling well, so she came alone.
While I was in a panic, my husband, shaking with anger, slapped our son.
My husband’s anger seemed uncontainable as he refused to listen to our son and started a fight. Our son defiantly stated, “Mom and Dad don’t need to come to the wedding.”
From what my son has shared, it seems that since the early stages of Chie’s illness, he and Kaori were in a close relationship. It appears that she was by his side not only during his previous hospitalization but also during his past surgeries and treatments. It’s clearly an affair. And a despicable one at that. However, they seem to romanticize the affair and idolize the new spouse as “someone who will take care of them and the children.” Despite how shocking Chie’s illness and death were, I cannot help but feel a sense of unease about what happened to my son.
