According to a public opinion survey by JNN, it has become apparent that there are more people who desire a change in government in the next lower house election rather than wishing for the continuation of the LDP government.
With the end of the term of the House of Representatives approaching in October next year, respondents were asked whether they hope for the “continuation of the LDP-Komeito government” or “the change of power to the Constitutional Democratic Party” in the next general election.
As a result, the percentage of those favoring “continuation of the LDP government” increased by 2 points from the previous survey to 34%, while the percentage favoring “change of power” increased by 6 points to 48%.
The difference in support rates between the LDP and the Constitutional Democratic Party narrowed by more than 5 points.
When asked how long they want Prime Minister Kishida to continue as Prime Minister, the majority (60%) chose “until the end of September”, followed by 27% who preferred an immediate change.
In a question about who is most suitable as the next prime minister within the LDP, former Secretary-General Ishiba rose by more than 5 points from the March survey to take the top spot. Former Environment Minister Koizumi ranked 2nd, and Digital Minister Kono ranked 3rd, but both saw a drop in their rankings. Prime Minister Kishida ranked 7th.
