A mother named Naho is struggling to balance work, childcare, and household chores. Despite repeatedly refusing, her mother-in-law continues to send homemade side dishes to their house, insisting it’s for the family’s nutrition. This leads to a confrontation where Naho finally expresses that it’s a nuisance. The situation raises questions about gratitude and the intentions behind the mother-in-law’s actions. Naho and her husband hesitate to speak up, feeling misunderstood. The story explores whether they should continue to ignore the issue or address it firmly. The next episode will reveal their decision.
Continuation from the previous episode. Even if you act with the thought “for your sake,” you never know what the receiving party thinks. In some cases, it might even become a nuisance for the other person. What if this happened between a wife and mother-in-law…? This time, a homemade side dish teaches us about the “unwelcome favors” in this story.
Naho is a mother raising her two-year-old son, Riku, and newborn daughter, Natsu. A few months ago, her maternity leave ended, and she just returned to work. Though struggling to balance household chores, child-rearing, and work with her husband Ryota’s help, she’s gradually getting the hang of it. However, ever since Naho returned to work, her mother-in-law continues to send homemade side dishes to their doorstep, despite numerous refusals. She even goes as far as saying, “It’s for the family’s nutrition” and “It’s the only thing I can do for you right now.” Naho finally reaches her breaking point. Besides, her mother-in-law now waits in front of their home to hand-deliver the food. Naho clearly tells her mother-in-law that it’s a nuisance, and an argument ensued when her mother-in-law brought up the word “living together.”
Episode 12: Is It Wrong to Be Unable to Express Gratitude?
Is living together for Naho’s sake…? Was delivering the unwanted side dishes all for the “family’s sake”…? Naho and Ryota seem hesitant to voice their feelings in response to the mother-in-law’s insistence that she’s done nothing wrong. But the feelings in both of their hearts are probably the same. “She doesn’t understand anything…” This sums it up. Will they continue to ignore it, or will they convince her to understand? What will Ryota choose?
Continues to “Episode 13.”
